BONN (dpa-AFX) – So far, the World Cup games of the German national basketball team have only been broadcast by the Telekom (Deutsche Telekom) broadcaster MagentaSport. But that could change. After reaching the knockout round, Telekom says it is ready to resell live rights to the German selection. “We regularly exchange ideas with other media partners and free TV broadcasters about possible cooperation in sports rights, including in the case of the basketball World Cup,” said a company spokesman for the German Press Agency. “If a cooperation makes sense for both sides, then it may be possible to exploit the content via other media partners.”
MagentaSport broadcasts the German games free of charge and the other matches are subject to a fee. Unlike last year, when RTL entered the home European Championship from the quarter-finals, such a solution has not yet emerged at the World Cup in Asia. RTL has already canceled. According to the current status, ARD and ZDF are also not expected to get involved. ProSiebenSat.1 (ProSiebenSat1 Media SE) said on Monday: “We will not show any World Cup games.”
