MAGDEBURG (dpa-AFX) – The cooperation between the US chip manufacturer Intel and the universities in Saxony-Anhalt is taking more and more form against the background of the group’s settlement in Magdeburg. “Specifically, we are working at the University of Magdeburg on the implementation of one or two interdisciplinary courses that should start in the coming winter semester,” said the Rector of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, Jens Strackeljan, on Wednesday of the German Press Agency . In cooperation with Intel, the entire portfolio from honorary professorships to scholarships is conceivable. Intel emphasized that the company attaches great importance to working together on an equal footing. “Research and teaching is free,” said the personnel manager for Germany, Bernd Holthaus. “We can imagine various programs for training and further education. According to Strackeljan, the first ideas are there, and working groups are being set up to put them into practice. Another important question is how the proportion of women in the so-called MINT areas can be increased. In addition, starting a career is also important for the international students at the university. “We will start thinking about how we can actually not only get them, but also keep them in the region,” said the Rector.
In addition to the university in Magdeburg, Intel says it is also in talks with other academic institutions. On Tuesday, representatives of Intel and various universities in the state of Saxony-Anhalt exchanged ideas in Magdeburg. “The state’s universities took the opportunity to introduce themselves, to formulate their competencies and projects,” said Strackeljan, who is also President of the State Rectors’ Conference. Intel has provided information about specific needs and plans relating to the training and further education of students and specialists.
According to Intel, more than 80 jobs have been advertised in Magdeburg so far. Accordingly, these are primarily positions for the construction and planning phase, such as future plant management, construction or public relations.
