BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – Thanks to a hat-trick from top striker Serhou Guirassy, VfB Stuttgart is top of the Bundesliga table, at least for one night. The Swabians defeated VfL Wolfsburg 3-1 (0-1) on Saturday and secured their sixth win on the seventh matchday. Borussia Dortmund (BVB (Borussia Dortmund)) is second for the time being after a 4:2 (1:2) against 1. FC Union Berlin, who suffered their seventh competitive defeat in a row. It put a damper on RB Leipzig, who missed two penalties in the 0-0 draw against VfL Bochum. As a result, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim overtook, winning 3-2 (2-1) at Werder Bremen. At FC Augsburg things are getting tight for coach Enrico Maaßen after the 1:2 (0:0) against SV Darmstadt 98.
Borussia Mönchengladbach had already saved a 2-2 (1-1) draw against FSV Mainz 05 late on Friday. On Sunday, Bayer Leverkusen can push Stuttgart back from the top in the Rhine derby against 1. FC Köln. FC Bayern hosts SC Freiburg, but can only get within one point of Stuttgart.
At VfB Stuttgart it took a while until the next big Guirassy show. Yannick Gerhardt (34th) gave Wolfsburg a deserved lead. But then the league’s top scorer single-handedly turned the game around, with Guirassy scoring 11 to 13 goals this season (67’/foul penalty/78’/82′).
In the duel between the Champions League starters in Dortmund, the video evidence again caused debate in the first half. Three scenes were checked, one goal from each team was disallowed due to a very slight offside position and a penalty was awarded. After Niclas Füllkrug’s quick opening goal (7th minute), Robin Gosens (9th) immediately equalized for Union. After half an hour, national team returnee Mats Hummels caused a penalty kick, which Leonardo Bonucci safely converted.
Nico Schlotterbeck, who was missing from national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s first squad, brought BVB back into the game shortly after the break with a long-range goal (49th). Shortly afterwards, Julian Brandt completed a great counterattack to make it 3-2 (53′). Ex-Berlin player Julian Ryerson (71st) made the decision.
The Leipzig team, who were too harmless in the end, had a lot of trouble with the Bochum team, who had improved defensively this time. VfL goalkeeper Manuel Riemann also saved two weak penalties from Xavi Simons (27th) and Emil Forsberg (61st).
