The three Rotary clubs from Emmen have started a national campaign with the sale of hand-painted Christmas baubles. The clubs hope that more organizations throughout the country will join in to raise as much money as possible for charity.
The three clubs, united in the Wadapera foundation (which means unique and special, ed.), collect money by selling Christmas baubles. In Emmen, the proceeds will go to the University Asylum Fund (UAF), which is committed to the development of refugee students and professionals. The clubs that want to join can choose their own charity.
The idea and the first design originated with artist Ingo Leth from Emmen. “That’s when we came up with the idea of linking it to the Rotary campaign,” he says. “I made the first design. And we want to make it an annual campaign. With a different artist every year, whose design will be on the Christmas bauble.
Next year it will be someone else’s turn.” The glass Christmas baubles are painted on the inside by the so-called snuff bottle artists from China. “We believe that the design should be positive,” says Wim Melenberg. “That is also what we as Wadapera stand for .”
“We also want to go to Christmas markets with it. We will in any case be at China Lights and at the Christmas market at Wildlands,” adds Roelie Lubbers of Rotary Club ‘t Loo. “We had a booth made.” Part of every Christmas bauble sold goes to charity. The rest is for the production and a small part for the artist.
