As of: September 16, 2023 9:47 a.m

Three wins, two defeats, but most recently at promotion contender HSV: The bottom line is that Hansa Rostock got off to a good start to the season in the 2nd league. Today, however, the next tough opponent, Fortuna Düsseldorf, awaits in the Ostseestadion.

Hansa coach Alois Schwartz is still optimistic and is counting on the recovery factor of the international break. “We used the days off to clear our heads”said the 56-year-old before today’s duel with Düsseldorf (1 p.m., in the NDR Livecenter). “We’re going into the game stronger.” Fortuna is one place and one point ahead of fifth-placed Rostock in the table.

The Düsseldorf team is not one of Rostock’s favorite opponents. The last three duels were lost, with Mecklenburg conceding eleven goals. Hansa lost their last encounter to date with 2:5. This defeat cost Schwartz predecessor Patrick Glöckner his job last March.

Schwartz: “It’s flooding near Düsseldorf right now”

With the 5-0 win at SV Elversberg and a 3-1 win against Karlsruhe, Fortuna hasteam Coach Daniel Thioune showed that he is a force to be reckoned with this season too. “Things are slipping at Düsseldorf right now. I see Fortuna in the top five, but we are competitive”says Schwartz.

The Rostocker has to do without Coach on the injured Oliver Hüsing, Lukas Scherff, Simon Rhein and Milosz Brzozowski. Defender John-Patrick Strauß was most recently in action with the Philippine national team in the 2-1 win over Afghanistan. Its use is still uncertain.

Possible lineups:

Hansa Rostock: Kolke – van der Werff, Roßbach, Rossipal – Neidhart, Dressel, Bachmann, K. Schumacher – Ingelsson – Pröger, Perea
Fortuna Dusseldorf: Kastenmeier – M. Zimmermann, Hoffmann, de Wijs, Iyoha – Engelhardt – Klaus, Johannesson, Appelkamp, Tzolis – Vermeij
