Borussia Dortmund makes the next slip. After the draw at FC Augsburg, BVB fans vent their anger. Is it now getting tight for coach Marco Rose?
Only 1:1 at FC Augsburg. Blundered again. Take the next hit. Let leaders FC Bayern escape. And once again handed over a game. The mood at Borussia Dortmund seems to be at a low point after the draw on Sunday evening – and now coach Marco Rose is also looking increasingly battered. After the Augsburg game, some BVB supporters apparently vented their anger.
“Today a couple of fans here shouted ‘Rose out’,” Rose explained at the press conference after the game. “It’s not a pleasant situation for a football coach. But I can assess the situation properly. We’re all very, very disappointed with our performance in every cup competition. We’re second in the Bundesliga.” However, they are now eight points behind Bayern again.
“If I answer the question…”
Rose is convinced: “If we had reached the next round somewhere – Champions League, DFB Cup or in the Europa League – maybe we would talk about other things.” But the reality is different: Dortmund said goodbye to the premier class after the group phase, in a group with Ajax, Sporting Lisbon and Besiktas that can be described as quite feasible. In the DFB Cup, they embarrassed themselves in the 1: 2 in the round of 16 at second division FC St. Pauli. And in the intermediate round of the Europa League, Glasgow Rangers were too strong, the 2-2 in Scotland during the week was not enough after the 2-4 home slap during the week.
Rose himself knows that he has few arguments for a good year: “I work with the boys and we’re trying to get the most out of the season,” said the 45-year-old on Sunday. The questions at the press conferences become more uncomfortable – even after the Augsburg game. Does he still feel the support of the BVB bosses? “If I answer the question, I’ll be giving material again,” Rose replied.
And in the stands is Edin Terzic, who was promised away for Rose and is currently Technical Director at the club. The 39-year-old had stabilized the team after Lucien Favre’s departure last season and led to the DFB Cup victory, is valued and popular. It won’t get any quieter in Dortmund.
