Before returning to the former club
Head coach Marco Rose from RB Leipzig looks back on his time in Dortmund. “I don’t have the feeling that I was dismembered there,” said the 46-year-old football teacher before the top Bundesliga game this Friday between Saxony and Borussia Dortmund. The Westphalians surprisingly ended their collaboration with Rose at the end of last season after BVB had won the runners-up championship.

Some players are said to have heard about the dismissal from the media while on vacation, reported the “Bild” newspaper, which is said to have caused displeasure within the team in addition to surprise. “I think everyone has to judge for themselves. My coaching team and I tried to push things forward, which I think we succeeded in doing,” said Rose, looking back on his one-season tenure, during which he averaged 1.85 points with the Black and Yellows from 46 games . “In the end, a few things worked out so that I’m no longer a coach, but here in Leipzig. Accordingly, I take the situation as it is,” Rose continued.

Rose’s anticipation of seeing old friends again is great. “I’m an open person, I’ve made a lot of friends and made a few phone calls this week,” he said, emphasizing: “I’m mainly going there to win a football game. (…) We need a top performance. With the stadium, with the fans behind us and with the series, the atmosphere will be there. If we get there, maybe a few percent more.”
With an away win, fourth-placed Leipzig could move up to one point behind second-placed BVB, who have been unbeaten for nine games in a row. When asked, the RBL coach also commented on his successor Edin Terzic – and only had words of praise ready: “He’s a Dortmund boy, so similar to how I come from Leipzig. Of course you can feel how deeply rooted he is in the club. Edin is a very fine person, a great coach. I can still only say that the cooperation was really good that year. I am happy to see him.”
The BVB trainer, however, warned before the duel with a view to the defeat from the first leg: “We are still warned enough about the quality the opponent can bring to the pitch. The guys from Leipzig ate us up in the duels.” However, Terzic is confident that his team will sell better this time. “We proved that we can win against any opponent in the league. If we manage to consistently get our quality onto the pitch, a lot is possible this season.”
