Should “make a difference”
DC United with coach Wayne Rooney have signed their third designated player, whose salary is not directly linked to the salary cap, following Schalke’s Victor Pálsson (31) and Rapids Taxiarchis Fountas (26). Belgium international Christian Benteke (31) leaves Crystal Palace and moves to the MLS. The striker has a contract with the capitals until 2024, which can be extended by another year until 2025.
“His experience and his ability to score goals and help the team will be invaluable,” Rooney said of Benteke, who has made 280 appearances for Liverpool, Aston Villa and Palace in the league where his coach became an icon booked. Rooney expects the veteran to “make a big difference.”
