Roofing felt caught fire on the roof of a ten-storey building in Berlin-Marzahn on Tuesday. According to the fire brigade, several gas bottles that were on the roof also exploded.
The plumes of smoke could be seen from afar. The fire has now been largely extinguished, said a spokesman for the fire department on Tuesday afternoon. “The smoke is over. However, post-extinguishing work is still taking place.”
According to the fire brigade, the roofing felt burned on an area of around 120 square meters on the roof of the building, which is still under construction. “Roofing felt is an oil mixture, which of course gives off a lot of smoke.” It was also difficult for the fire brigade to get onto the roof at first.
More than 60 firefighters were on duty. The fire department spokesman could not provide any information on the cause of the fire. The police will take care of the exact investigation.
