Roof collapses in large house fire in Breda, one injured

A large fire broke out in a house in the Mastbosstraat in Breda on Tuesday afternoon. The roof of the house has collapsed and the black clouds of smoke can be seen far into the area. One resident sustained minor injuries and smoke inhalation. Two neighboring houses have been evacuated.

The fire broke out just after three hours and was quickly extinguished. A woman and child were in the home at the time. The woman suffered smoke inhalation and was given oxygen in an ambulance. She also sustained injuries to her hands.

The fire started in the fuse box, according to the fire service. There was a power failure in Breda for some time. The fire broke out shortly after it was repaired. “I had just arrived home and my daughter was inside. The power was still out and when she went to look in the meter cupboard she saw that there was a fire,” says Samia Posthumus.

The fire brigade has been turned out with large equipment and is currently working to extinguish the fire. The window frames were already blackened, and the roof of the house has also collapsed. Two neighboring houses have been evacuated.

According to the woman, the family had only just moved in and new solar panels had just been installed on the roof. “I built all this together with my father and that is gone in one go,” says son Sami, depressed.
