Romy Monteiro seemed to be doing well with her television career, but things don’t seem to be going so well anymore. She has now also been replaced at the Christmas Music Gala, namely by Edsilia Rombley. Do the broadcasters no longer want to work with her because of her alleged diva behavior or is there possibly something else going on?
Where is Romy?
Show news expert Bart Ettekoven also finds it strange that Romy was not featured in the AvroTros Christmas Music Gala last night. “Yes, he actually stands next to Buddy Vedder every year. They are the faces of this gala. We just called AvroTros and said: ‘How come Romy is not there?’” he says in the show section on SBS 6.
And? “Well, they say, ‘She wants to concentrate on her singing career, that’s why she’s not here.’ Then the choice quickly fell on Edsilia Rombley as presenter, because she has also been advocating for music in the classroom for many years. She will do it again next year. That is certainly not a bad choice.”
Argument backstage
It remains strange, says Tooske Ragas. “This is not the first project where Romy can no longer be seen.”
Bart: “No, she was not on display at the Uitmarkt and that raises questions among a number of people. There were also rumors today: ‘Is she not doing anything anymore?’”
Colleague Evert Sangtegoeds: “She would also play in The Bodyguard. Not every evening, but a few evenings a week and there was also a big fight behind the scenes. She didn’t show up at one point, so I think she has a reputation problem.”
Romy responds
What does Romy say? Bart: “I had contact with her just before the broadcast. She says: ‘I find it very annoying that stories like that keep going around.’ That sticks to her somehow. They are also always new stories.”
“She says: ‘What is really going on is that at one point I was doing so much… I was singing, presenting, acting, writing and after the break with Jasper I realized for a moment: what do I want? Real?'”
She wants to sing
And that is singing. Romy wants to make songs and score hits. “She is now fully focusing on that. Making new music. She says: ‘Just wait patiently. The Netherlands will hear from me again in 2024.’”
