A huge blow with an 18-match ban. Roma Under 17 recorded a truly unenviable category record. The sports judge, in fact, came down hard on the Giallorossi club which was defeated last weekend in the match against Fiorentina, played at the “Davide Astori” pitch in Florence. But more than the defeat on the field, which made Roma slip to third place, what shamed the team coached by Alessandro Toti was the attitude of the boys at the end of a match resolved by a penalty after time expired. Match director Cosimo Papi sent off 4 Giallorossi players shortly after the 90th minute, as well as assistant coach Lorenzo Carinci. Among them there is also the star of the national under 17 team, Gioele Giammattei, who was already punished last year with a 9-match ban.

THE PRECEDENT

The two who received the heaviest sanction were Lorenzo Dal Bon and Giampaolo Bonifazi. For them, 5 rounds of disqualification each for having “threatened an opponent and, after notification of the expulsion, uttered insulting phrases towards the Referee”, as stated in the sports judge’s statement. Four days were awarded to Daniele Paul (“at the end of the match he stood in front of the Referee in order to prevent him from leaving the field of play and uttered abusive words towards him”) and to the jewel of the team Gioele Giammattei (“Expelled for disrespectful remarks towards the Referee, at the end of the match he returned to the field of play and repeated this conduct even while he was removed from his teammates”). And in this case it is a repeat offense given that last year during the match against Napoli Giammattei himself was disqualified for nine matches for having first hit an opposing defender and then, as he was leaving the pitch, also hitting the assistant referee with a slap.

THE PENALTY

A total of 18 days, an impressive figure especially considering the category. What triggered the Giallorossi’s anger was the penalty whistled at the end of time and then scored by the former Lazio player Clarizia. A decision that sent the Giallorossi into a rage as well as the celebration of Clarizia himself. The first to be sent off on the pitch was Giammattei himself (one of the stars of the under-17 national team) who, together with other teammates, surrounded the referee and then threatened him once the match was over. Severe punishments that did not go unnoticed in Trigoria. The club will speak with the technical staff to understand what happened and understand whether to take further action.
