Roma-Feyenoord, Gualtieri to Piantedosi: “Forbid the away game to the Dutch”

The mayor, worried about the arrival of the Dutch on April 20 for the Europa League match, called the interior minister: “We need a very tough attitude to protect the city”

The arrival, indeed the return, of Feyenoord fans in the capital is worrying. The commitment on 20 April at the Olimpico against Roma in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals immediately triggered the alarm, especially for what happened in 2015 when the fans arriving from Rotterdam were the protagonists of a real urban warfare and very heavy acts of vandalism , such as the damage to the Barcaccia fountain in Piazza di Spagna.

The request

The mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri immediately called the Viminale: “I asked Minister Piantedosi to evaluate the travel ban for Feyenoord fans and to have a very tough attitude to protect the city of Rome and the country because we have already seen episodes of very serious violence. All the more reason for such a delicate moment for the city, given that this meeting takes place just on the eve of the arrival of the BIE inspectors for the Rome Expo. I found the minister’s complete willingness to make the most appropriate interventions. It should be remembered that Piantedosi, when he held the position of prefect of the capital in 2022, ordered the ban on the sale of tickets to the same fans on the occasion of Lazio-Feyenoord, therefore it is more than probable that the mayor’s request will be accepted, also given that, Fyernoord fans are already launching battle messages on social media.

Watch out for the derby

The National Committee for public order and safety has also launched the alert on the Europa League match, but also on Sunday’s derby between Rome and Lazio, an alarm that pushes the police forces to “the utmost attention to avoid clashes and damage”.
