In the end the De Rossi line prevailed, Tommaso Baldanzi is on the UEFA list that Roma handed over to Nyon for the second part of the European season (starting with the playoff scheduled for 15 and 22 February with Feyenoord). The young attacking midfielder who has just arrived from Empoli also included the Spanish full-back Angelino and the Iranian striker Azmoun (still involved with his national team in the Asian Cup). However, Huijsen and Kristensen remain out. De Rossi spoke personally with both players, explaining the reasons for his choices and still guaranteeing him maximum trust regarding the championship matches.

Roma could insert up to three new players, as per the regulations, even if there were only two exits. This is because 20 players were placed in the September A list (the maximum is 25), to which add the 4 in the B list (Under 21, with two years of training at the club). On a numerical level, therefore, there was room for manoeuvre, but it was necessary to deal with the transfer balance hurdles. Obstacle circumvented thanks to UEFA’s choice to grant an expansion of the Giallorossi’s accounts by 12 million euros. This is also thanks to the relationships that Dan Friedkin has had for some time with the leaders of Nyon (starting with president Ceferin), but also within the Eca. In short, thanks to the intelligence work of the Giallorossi president, UEFA granted an extra budget which allowed Roma to stay within the expected budget.

De Rossi thus decided on the three chosen ones. Angelino because he is needed to make up the pair of left-backs with Spinazzola, Azmoun because he is currently Lukaku’s only replacement as a central striker (as Abraham is still out due to injury) and Baldanzi because he is the only real alternative to Dybala, in case in which the Argentine has any type of problem. With the 4-man defence, Huijsen’s presence obviously becomes less functional compared to the three-man line and on the right De Rossi is already covered by Karsdorp and Celik, which is why Kristensen was left out.
