Roma 1-2 Inter: goals from Vicario, Casadei and Iliev. The Primavera win the Scudetto for the Nerazzurri

The man who gave Inter the tenth Primavera Scudetto in its history comes from Bulgaria. There is the signing of Nikola Iliev on 2-1 with which Cristian Chivu’s team returned to the throne of Italy four years after the last time. As happened in the semifinals against Cagliari, Inter had to recover: Roma had taken the lead with Vicario’s goal, then Casadei’s equalizer, before the masterpiece of the boy born in 2004 arrived in 2020 from Botev Plovdiv. First success in the first final for Chivu, while it was the last of Alberto De Rossi on the Roma bench, after 19 uninterrupted years at the helm of the Primavera. In the stands Marotta and Ausilio cheered; disappointment, however, for Tiago Pinto and Bruno Conti, also in the stands of the Mapei Stadium, which had been the scene of the last Scudetto of Roma (2016) but also of the last two of Inter, those won in 2017 and 2018 both against Fiorentina.

De Rossi had confirmed as a whole the formation that had started the semifinal with Juventus: Volpato behind Satriano and Cherubini. Chivu, on the other hand, had changed the forwards, relying on Jurgens (formerly on duty at the time of the Under 17 team) and Abiuso, the player who with two goals had started the comeback with Cagliari before Sangalli’s 3-3. Volpato and Peschetola between the lines tried to create problems for the opposing defenses, but the game did not take off. Peschetola first tried to turn it on, but his left was a pass for Mastrantonio, born in 2004 and not in his first year in the Primavera as Faticanti, the first to kick towards Rovida’s door but without finding the mirror. Same outcome for Casadei’s free-kick, Vicario’s header and Jurgens’ touch on the near post on Franco Carboni’s cross from the left. Roma finished in attack, especially taking advantage of the run on the flanks by Missori (who has already made his debut with Mourinho in the Conference) and Rocchetti, but the first half ended rightly 0-0 also because Abiuso after doing everything right kicked on Peschetola, who was also offside.

De Rossi returned to the field with two new faces: Keramitsis (the only Italian champion in office, last year he played in the Empoli tricolor) and Tahirovic in place of Feratovic (who was booked) and Cherubini; shortly after, in Inter, Grygar for Fabbian. Other changes: Padula for Roma in place of Satriano, Valentin Carboni and Zuberek for Inter in place of Peschetola and Jurgens. As happened in the semifinals, however, it is an inactive ball that unlocks the game in favor of Roma: in the 70th minute, on the corner of Volpato, Vicario is detached in solitude a stone’s throw from Rovida, finding the goal of the advantage. De Rossi called Volpato back on the bench to insert Pagano; Chivu, on the other hand, removed Sangalli and Abiuso and let Owusu and Iliev in. With Roma in 10 (Rocchetti out due to injury), however, the equalizer goal was built by the usual Carboni and Casadei: as has so often happened this season, cross from the left of the Italian-Argentine and header to burn Keramitsis from Romagna, in the 16th center of the season between the championship and the Youth League, found shortly after putting on the captain’s armband left by Sangalli. Before extra time, even a left from the edge of Valentin Carboni controlled outside Mastrantonio.

Inter were the first to reach 2-1 after the break: Mastrantonio pinched the ball kicked by Iliev and deflected it to the post. The Roma goalkeeper, however, could do nothing on the conclusion of the Bulgarian, who asked for and obtained the one-two from Zuberek, jumped Vicario and closed the right at the near post. De Rossi sent Cassano to the field in place of Tripi; Chivu, at the beginning of the second extra-time, responded with Nunziatini for Silvestro. At 108 minutes, Pagano nearly equalized, not finding the left goal; four minutes later, good Rovida on the right from the edge of Cassano, who then engaged the Inter goalkeeper also on the left. In the middle, however, the biggest opportunity was still Vicario, who nearly scored twice but hit the crossbar. It would have been the third goal between the semi-final and the final: in two years, he had never scored. Instead, Inter are celebrating, who had closed the regular season seven points less than Roma, and in the 77th minute of the semifinal with Cagliari was down 0-3.
