Rolling Stones storm the iTunes charts with “Angry”.

The Stones’ new single is a complete success: number six in the worldwide iTunes charts.

Yesterday, Wednesday (September 6th, 2023), the Rolling Stones released their new single, “Angry”, a precursor to the album “Hackney Diamonds”, which will be released on October 20th.

The song, in whose video Sydney Sweeney plays the lead role lounging in a limousine, is at number one on the iTunes charts in Germany. The new track by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood is at number six in the global iTunes charts – among young stars such as Miley Cyrus, Doja Cat and Dua Lipa.

We last reported:

Yesterday, Wednesday (September 6th), the Rolling Stones in London announced their upcoming album: “Hackney Diamonds” will be released on October 20th, 2023. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood discussed the individual twelve songs of their upcoming, 25. Longplayers, and presented the video for their pre-single “Angry”. Hackney Diamonds is the first album since 2016’s cover record Blue and Lonesome and the first to feature new songs since 2005’s A Bigger Bang.

But: Wasn’t something missing yesterday?

Exactly, the Stones hadn’t said anything about presenting the new tracks on a concert tour next year. Atypical, because tours are actually fun for the Brits: since “A Bigger Bang” they have completed seven, including world tours.

One can only speculate about the reasons why the Rolling Stones said nothing about live plans in the talk show. Don’t you ever go on concert tours again? Jagger is 80, Richards will soon be 80, Wood is 76. Their “Sixty” tour only ended on August 3 last year, in the Berlin Waldbühne. Following the death of Charlie Watts in 2021, the Stones have continued with Steve Jordan on drums.

There are only two possibilities: You can’t or don’t want to anymore – or, more likely: You didn’t want to let the anticipation of your first album with new songs cloud you since 2005 with concert advance sales information, of which there have been a lot since 2005. “Hackney Diamonds” owned the spotlight on Wednesday.

If the Rolling Stones go on tour in 2024, it could start in the spring of next year, for example in the USA, and take the band to Europe in the summer of 2024. There were still many months left for the announcement and the pre-sale. Either way, it will be exciting to see what new tunes the band will add to their set list – having enjoyed “greatest hits” instead of new material over the past ten years. On the other hand, many fans surely want to hear how good the upcoming songs will sound live.
