Rolf Kutzmutz resigns as president of the women’s Bundesliga club Turbine Potsdam. The 75-year-old announced this on Wednesday. The reason is the surprising separation from coach Sofian Chahed.

The players at Turbine Potsdam are facing bigger changes than expected: President Rolf Kutzmutz announced his resignation with immediate effect early on Wednesday evening. The main reason for the 75-year-old’s decision is the surprising separation from coach Sofian Chahed last week.

resignation with immediate effect

Kutzmutz had already confirmed on Tuesday in response to a request from rbb|24 that he did not support the decision to part with Chahed after a season that was very successful by Potsdam standards. “I have stated that I am not going down this path, but I was in the minority,” he specified again on Wednesday.

Kutzmutz also felt that Chahed had to go as a loss of authority: “I also related the decision not to leave Sofian Chahed’s contract effective to myself.” In the afternoon, the President was therefore together for talks with the other responsible persons from the Turbine Executive Committee.

Kutzmutz won the presidential duel against Tabea Kemme

This was followed by the decision of Kutzmutz, who worked in Turbine offices for 22 years and had been President of the association since 2015. “I have informed the other board members that I am resigning from my position with immediate effect,” he said on rbb24 Inforadio.

It was only last summer that Kutzmutz prevailed at the Turbine general meeting as a candidate against the former Potsdam player Tabea Kemme and was re-elected for a third term. Even then, however, the election result of 110:100 votes for Kutzmutz revealed that the club did not have unlimited backing.

Kutzmutz: “My heart is bleeding”

In an interview with rbb24 Inforadio, Kutzmutz explicitly emphasized that his decision to resign was not easy for him. “It’s incredibly difficult to keep your feelings under control. My heart is bleeding and it hurts,” said the 75-year-old.

After the departure of Kutzmutz, the turbine is now facing an even greater upheaval than expected. In addition to numerous departures from the player squad, the Potsdam Bundesliga club not only has to find a new coach, but also has to fill the now vacant managerial position of president.
