Role models: opportunity or risk?

Nico BunzeckProfessor of Life Span Psychology at the University of Luebeck, deals with the development over the lifespan of a person. Role models play a crucial role here, as they are identity-forming. Primarily in the adolescence phase, i.e. between the ages of 12 and 18. However, orientation then takes place nearby, in one’s own peer group and in contrast to the parents.

That also observed Gaia von SykhowskiProfessor of Education at the Music Academy in Lübeck. Her role models, both personal and doctrinal, can be found in the philosophical context of Kant, Foucault and Butler. However, she encourages people to take a critical look at these “idols” and their teachings again and again. She would like to be a role model herself, but also inspire her students to become self-determined and responsible people and teachers.

We know that influencers play a major role in this Felicidad Romero-Tejedor, professor for Digital media design at the Technical University of Lübeck. Societies change and so do their role models. Teachers and religion, for example, lose their function as role models and other “image categories” come to the fore. Designers often act before we see this shift, picking up narratives and holding up a mirror to us, over and over again. So it’s hardly surprising that the designer doesn’t have a single role model, but rather a collage of many.

Under the moderation of Theresa LichtleinHead of Communications at the Technical University of Lübeck, highlights the podcast from Lübeck to the power of 3 once a month topics of research, culture and society. Representatives of the three universities involved in the project (Lübeck University of Music, Lübeck University of Applied Sciences and Lübeck University of Applied Sciences) and, depending on the topic, an expert as a guest are invited.

The podcast is available through the website www.gedankenspruenge-podcast.de and all common platforms ready for retrieval. The episodes go online on Wednesdays in the middle of the month at 12 noon.
Knowledge transfer, mutual dialogue and new ideas – this is what Lübeck stands for 3. The initiators and representatives of the three universities see their own podcast as an important building block to stimulate discourse with society about science and culture.

The discussion round in episode 24:
