The Hessian state government and the city of Frankfurt do not want Roger Waters to perform in the Festhalle on May 28th. Because of anti-Semitic statements, the former Pink Floyd musician should not play as planned. However, the termination of the contract has not yet been announced. This is said to come from the Frankfurt trade fair, which is responsible for renting out the location.
Nevertheless, according to “Spiegel” information, the city and state are in charge: Frankfurt holds 60 percent and Hesse 40 percent of the Festhalle. The management of the fair was instructed on Friday to “exercisely terminate the contract with the controversial artist immediately for good cause”.
Roger Waters: Anti-Semitic sentiments
The “persistently anti-Israel behavior” of “one of the most far-reaching anti-Semites in the world” makes it impossible to stick to the concert plans. Roger Waters has repeatedly called for a boycott of Israel – with his anti-Semitic attitude, the musician does not hold back. The rejection is intended to set “a clear signal against anti-Semitism that is supported by society as a whole”. Up until now, Frankfurt had apparently heard nothing about the criticism of Roger Waters, otherwise the musician would probably never have been signed in the first place.
More shows planned in Germany
Roger Waters shows are also planned in Berlin, Munich and Cologne, which has already led to criticism. Whether the performance bans are actually issued – from a legal point of view, this is a matter that is difficult to enforce. Roger Waters recently caused another scandal when he claimed that US President Joe Biden was stoking the fire in Ukraine. On the other hand, there was applause from Moscow.
