“Your opinion is so disgusting and so degrading. .. to stand up for the Zionist structure.”
Roger Waters speaks out against Bono in a new interview. Specifically, the ex-Pink Floyd musician attacks his U2 colleague because of his comments on the Hamas terrorist attack against Israeli citizens on October 7, 2023. Bono strongly condemned the act of terrorism.
At one of their residency concerts at the Sphere in Las Vegas, U2 paid tribute to the deceased Israelis immediately after the massacre – they played the hit “Pride (In The Name of Love)” for the partygoers killed at a festival.. Earlier, Bono said on stage, visibly moved: “Given what happened in Israel and Gaza, a song about non-violence seems a bit ridiculous, even laughable, but our prayers have always been for peace and non-violence… But our hearts and our anger , you know where this leads. So sing with us… and with these wonderful children at this music festival.”
To do this, Bono changed the 1984 hit, originally written for the murdered Martin Luther King, Jr.: “Early morning, Oct. 7, the sun is rising in the desert sky… Stars of David, they took your life but they couldn’t take your pride.” – “Early in the morning, October 7th, the sun rises in the desert sky… Stars of David, they took your life, but they could not take your pride.”
“Zionist entities”
Roger Waters, an outspoken enemy of the Israeli government (some consider him an anti-Semite), finds the Irish singer’s behavior “disgusting.” “My mother told me that when I face difficult problems, the first thing I have to do is read – read, read, read. Then the next part is easy: do the right thing!” says the 80-year-old. Waters advocates for the Palestinians; The hallmark of his commitment is the ignoring of the suffering that terrorists bring to Israelis and Jews. That’s why his record company BMG has already separated from him.
Then, in the video for Al Jazeera, Waters said: “Anyone who knows Bono should grab him by the ankles and shake him…until he stops being a big fuck…”
Roger Waters continued, musing about “Zionist entities”: “We have to start telling these people, your opinion is so disgusting and so degrading. .. standing up for the Zionist entity… what he did a few weeks ago at the Sphere in Las Vegas, singing about the Stars of David, was one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever seen in my life.”
Bono repeatedly used his appearances in the Sphere to make political statements – most recently to remember the late (and possibly assassinated) Alexei Navalny.
