Roger Schmidt will stop as PSV coach after this season. PSV announced this on Thursday. The 54-year-old German had been in talks with the club management of the current number two in the Eredivisie for months, but therefore opts for a departure.
Schmidt is in the interest of other clubs, but PSV wanted to continue with him. It is not yet known why he wants to leave. So far he has only won the Johan Cruijff Scale with the Eindhoven club.
“We have used the past few weeks to have good conversations,” said director of football affairs John de Jong on the PSV club channel. He thinks it is a “pity” that Schmidt is leaving. “But this does not change our goal to win as many prizes as possible this season.”
