“I want to come back strong and give everything I have,” said the former world number 1 on Wednesday. “I have a very interesting and important next few months ahead of me. I think I will know a lot more by April-May. The drive is still there. I am motivated to come back.”
In the meantime, he works to maintain his fitness. “I’ll be back at the gym tomorrow. I work as hard as I can, so it’s still good times, even if it’s a little slow. I would like to do a lot more but the doctors and my team are holding me back a bit,” Federer said in a video conference to one of his sponsors.
Federer last played at Wimbledon last summer. The twenty-time grand slam winner was eliminated on the grass in London in the quarterfinals. A few weeks later, he had to undergo surgery on one of his knees for the third time.
