The 20-time grand slam winner has not played a game since Wimbledon 2021 due to multiple knee surgeries. He does plan to participate in the Laver Cup in London, a demonstration tournament, at the end of September.
His home tournament in Basel, Swiss Indoor, in October is also on his program, but that’s it this year. ,,For me it is important to get fit again, so that I can train fully. Laver Cup is an excellent time to start because I don’t have to play five games in six days. I should be able to do that in Basel. That is why it is important to prepare myself well during the training.”
“I definitely want to return in 2023, but I don’t know how and where yet,” said the tennis legend. ,,Once I get that far, I can choose how many tournaments I play and where. I come from far, but I am hopeful. The next three or four months are very important.”
