Roermond makes a painful mistake in letter to 75-year-olds: ‘Your partner has died’ | Domestic

The municipality of Roermond made a mistake when sending letters to a large group of people over 75. In that letter to a total of 146 residents of that age, it was suggested that their partner had died.

The municipality deeply regrets this ‘annoying mistake’ and has since apologized.

The municipality sends a letter every quarter to 75 and 80 year olds, and to widows and widowers. In these letters they are informed of the existence of a senior advisor. The letters for this quarter were sent last week. “Unfortunately, the 75-year-olds have received the letter, which was intended for widows and widowers,” the mayor and aldermen explain in a message to the municipal council about what went wrong.

Small gift

‘We understand that this is very annoying for the residents involved. We would like to offer our sincere apologies to them. We do this by sending a new letter in which we apologize and include a small gift.’ According to newspaper The Limburger This apology letter was already sent last week. This after ‘angry emails and phone calls arrived at the municipality’.
