Roden gets 56 homes in ‘De Boterlinie’

Roden will get 56 more homes on the Kanaalstraat. This afternoon a signing took place for the construction of the district, which has been given the working name ‘De Boterlinie’.

The houses are adjacent to Fitness Center Roden, where the Coöperatieve Zuivelfabriek Roden-Zevenhuizen used to be located.

Residents of De Boterlinie will soon have a view of the Leisure Boulevard, which includes Kampeerhal Roden, Snow&Co and Intersport. “You see more and more that business is being mixed with housing,” says alderman Jos Darwinkel of the Noordenveld municipality.

The construction of the houses should start by the end of next year. The plot of land on the Kanaalstraat is currently vacant. “I wouldn’t call it an eyesore,” says Darwinkel. “But there was also an old house empty a while ago. That is deteriorating and then you want to develop in the long run. I’m glad we can start.”

Next Tuesday there will be an information meeting for local residents and those involved about the future of the Leisure Boulevard. There, the project developer will, among other things, explain their plans to realize housing at a second location on the Kanaalstraat, namely on the old Bike Life site. Homes are also expected there in the future.

“We ask people to think about the interpretation of this part of Roden,” says alderman Darwinkel. “How can we merge business and housing? That’s good to think about.”
