Rocking trainer, triple ankle fracture and for once no ten goals conceded for Oldambtster Boys | Amateur football in Bird’s-eye view

In the Amateur Football in Bird’s-eye section, we take a tour of the amateur fields in Drenthe and Groningen for notable events. This time a rocking trainer, a serious injury for the striker of Vitesse’63 and how they keep their spirits up in Nieuw Scheemda.

Oldambtster Boys have not yet achieved a single point this season and have scored ten or more in all the matches they played in October, with an 11-5 defeat against Wagenborg Boys as the most goal-rich match. “It’s not going very well yet,” agrees midfielder Emil Heeres of the fifth division with a sense of understatement.

On Saturday it looked like number four in the rankings SETA to walk a little differently. “We were 1-0 ahead at half time. By the way, I made it, maybe it’s nice to mention it, haha.” After rest it went wrong again. “Yes, it ended up being 6-2. So to no ten against… They had already received a red card before half time, but we also got two after the break. And with nine against ten it becomes difficult. Oh well, they were a bit lame red cards. After that 1-0 at half time it was a downer. But we keep our courage up. That first victory is definitely coming!”

Bee Gorecht that first victory is already in the bag. In fact, the team of coach Hans van der Ploeg is competing for the title in the second division. Last Saturday they won 6-3 at home LTC . The Niewold family (Sam three, Yorn one) accounted for two-thirds of the production, while neither of them had scored yet this season before the match against LTC.

Van der Ploeg did not celebrate the victory with well-known canteen and dressing room hits such as Guardian Angel. In the evening he was in the Ziggo Dome at a concert by the rock band Queens of the Stone Age. “I indicated in the meeting that I had to leave immediately after the match. And we agreed that I would post a photo of the ‘rock gesture’ (an emoji of a hand with pinky and index fingers extended, ed.) in the group app. Late in the night I got one back from two players. There has also been cheering with that gesture after a goal. It’s starting to take on a life of its own with us, haha.”

But do the players now also play the music that goes with it? “People know my taste in music, but there are few in the selection who have the same taste. I always run away when the Dutch hits are played in the dressing room after a victory…”

Besides the 6-3, there were even more monster results to be recorded in 2J, because both Noordscheschut as Drenthina struck out, they won 6-1 and 8-0 respectively Achilles 1894 and VV Groningen .

Bee Vitesse’63 there was no reason for merriment. The winner against FC Ommen was stopped in the 84th minute at 3-2 due to a triple ankle fracture of 31-year-old striker Jeroen van den Berg. “He had just come on fifteen minutes after returning from an injury. His foot was hanging really badly. I fear that we will not see Jeroen on the football field again,” said Koekanger coach Pim Donker.

A level lower, in the fourth class, both wanted to Hollandscheveld as SJS to stay in the footsteps of leader Borger. This worked for the Drenthe, as they won 2-0 thanks to goals from Hans Zomer and Roy Strijker. The Knoalster have to take a step back and are now four points behind the leader.
