With the single “Rocking in Vienna”, Wanda announced today (March 18th) their fifth studio album for September 30th of this year. An exact title is still under wraps. “As always, the lyrics oscillate between thoughtfulness and nonsense. It’s about life, love and death, but the songs are maybe a bit brighter and louder,” said the head of the band Marco Michael Wanda in an interview with the Austrian tabloid “Kronen Zeitung”. The record turned out to be louder and faster than its predecessor – and thus finds its way back to the original Wanda DNA.
My faith is the vodka and the vodka is my grave
The new piece comes as a parody of a noticeably dying Rock’n’Roll gesture and a song of praise to excess: “One after the other they stop smoking and drinking / And they all go jogging in the park / Tragically I am I’m different / My faith is vodka and vodka is my grave,” it says right at the beginning of the three-minute film. The Viennese frontman started exercising himself during the lockdown: “I do sports so that I can continue to drink vodka,” says Wanda.
Marilyn Monroe, dancing garbage men and a new drummer
The video not only shows dancing garbage men and Marilyn Monroe imitations – for the first time the quartet can be seen with Valentin Wegscheider instead of Lukas Hasitschka on drums. The band was originally founded with him and then peacefully separated. According to the band, Wegscheider played “two or three concerts” with the group in front of about twenty people before the breakthrough.
We can only guess what an ecstatic event it will be when Wanda returns to the Central European stages with their new single. In any case, that rock-induced frenzy will be presented by the ME: Wanda will be playing in clubs this year and in the country’s halls next year.
