Ozzy Osbourne will be nominated as a solo artist for the first time.
The nominations for this year’s Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame have been announced. Nominees include Oasis, Ozzy Osbourne and Mariah Carey as well as Sinead O’Connor, Cher, Sade and Mary J. Blige.
To be selected, an artist or band’s first commercial recording must have occurred at least 25 years before the year of nomination.
Dave Matthews Band, Jane’s Addiction, A Tribe Called Quest, Peter Frampton, Eric B. & Rakim, Foreigner, Kool & the Gang and Lenny Kravitz also have a chance for a place in the Hall Of Fame. These are the first nominations for Oasis, Osbourne, Carey, O’Connor, Cher, Sade, Frampton, Foreigner, Kool & the Gang and Kravitz.
First nomination as a solo artist
Osbourne was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame back in 2006 as a member of Black Sabbath. In response to being nominated as a solo artist, the 75-year-old wrote on X: “I am very honored to receive this news from the Rock Hall. “Being one of the few musicians to be considered for a second recording, now as a solo artist, is something I could never have imagined.” He added that he was proud of the fact after 44 years as a solo artist to still be able to make music and receive recognition for it.
Here’s Ozzy Osbourne’s reaction:
Mariah Carey didn’t miss the opportunity either and wrote a few words on social media after the nominees were announced. Carey is “overjoyed and thrilled to be among these legendary nominees” for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Here’s Mariah Carey’s reaction:
The winners will be announced at the end of April, and the official induction into the hall will take place in Cleveland in fall 2024. An international committee of more than 1,000 artists, historians and members of the music industry votes on who will be inducted into the hall. There is also a fan vote.
More recordings by female artists
Last year, Kate Bush, Missy Eliott and George Michael were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, among others. In a Guardian article, Hole frontwoman Courtney Love called for more female artists to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. She pointed out that in recent years there have been too few black artists accepted.
