Robine (14) from Barsingerhorn can’t wait for tomorrow: the Junior Eurovision Song Contest final

Robine Maas is only fourteen years old, but she already has a singing career that many of her peers would dream of. Together with her two friends, she forms the girl group Flare, with which she will compete in the final of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest tomorrow. “It’s exciting, but I have it under control. Actually, it’s just healthy tension.”

The fourteen-year-old is busy with it. Today she was at school all day and tomorrow she will be on the Ahoy stage during the grand final of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. It will become clear who will represent the Netherlands during the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in the French city of Nice. The girl group will have to compete for victory tomorrow with three other acts.

All-rounder

Yet it is not the first time for Robine that she has been in the spotlight. She previously played in the musicals ‘He believes in me’ and ‘Was signed, Annie MG Schmidt’ and she participated in the talent show The Voice Kids.

Girls friendship

Together with friends Jikke from Blaricum and Hannah from Laren, she has formed the girl group Flare since the individual auditions of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. “I knew Jikke and Hannah from musical camp, but we didn’t know that all three of us were auditioning. And really coincidentally we were placed in a group,” says Robine.

It is not without reason that the song they perform during the final is called ‘Side by side’, and it is about a real girl friendship, where as friends you stay by each other’s side and are always there for each other.

“It’s all so special. This was always my great wish. I experience so many fun things, recording a video clip, singing our song in a real studio and performing at a festival. I wouldn’t have wanted to miss it.”

Tea with honey

Although tomorrow is the big day and it’s important that your voice contributes to it moment supreme, Robine is currently feeling a bit sick with the flu. “I’m a little worried because I’ve had a bit of a sore throat since today. I really like drinking tea with honey and that’s really good for my throat and voice.”

“It’s going to be fun either way, whether we win or not.”

Despite the healthy tension, Robine has a lot of confidence in the final tomorrow. “It’s going to be fun either way, whether we win or not. I’m going to enjoy everything.” The girl group even has their own fan section tomorrow: “There are all our famous people in the audience. It’s so special that all those people come especially for me.”

Robine can see how the evening will go: “I can see what will happen. I don’t see the others as competition, because they have all become friends of mine.”
