Gut decision vs Man Utd
Ex-national player Robin Koch wants to recommend himself with good performances at Eintracht Frankfurt for the home EM 2024. “My full focus is on Frankfurt, but returning to the national team is of course also an issue. First of all, I want to have a good season with Eintracht. Then we’ll see if the door opens again,” said the 26-year-old newcomer to the Hessian Bundesliga club on Tuesday.
The central defender made his debut in October 2019 under the then national coach Joachim Löw in the DFB selection, for which he has played eight international matches so far. Koch was last in the squad at the European Championships in 2021, where he was not used. There was no contact with national coach Hansi Flick about the initially loan change from Leeds United to Eintracht. But a comeback in the DFB jersey is “a big goal” for Koch.

In order to achieve this, the son of former Bundesliga professional Harry Koch would like to “take on a leadership role” at Eintracht. Chef Mario Götze (31), who made the DFB comeback after moving from PSV Eindhoven to Frankfurt last year, serves as a role model. “You saw that you can get back into the national team through Eintracht,” Koch explained recently in an interview on the website of the Europa League winner of 2022. He thought carefully about the move to Frankfurt: “My style of play and my emotional nature on the pitch fits the club perfectly.”

Koch had played for SC Freiburg in the German upper house from 2017 to 2020 and then switched to England for a fee of 13 million euros. There he played 77 games for the Whites within three years, 73 of them in the Premier League. Last season, Koch was Leeds’ most-used outfield player with 3,387 minutes in all competitions and also increased his market value from €16m to €18m, making him one of the most valuable professionals in the SBU squad.
