Robin Frijns fifth in second ePrix race in Berlin | 1Limburg

Robin Frijns finished fifth in the second race of the ePrix weekend in Berlin. The Maastricht rider started from P2, but was overtaken by world champion Nyck de Vries shortly after the start.

The Mercedes driver also took Edoardo Mortara and was not pushed back from the lead.

Finalist
Frijns had finished second in the group qualification on Sunday morning and was then allowed to compete for pole position. He successively eliminated Felix Antonio da Costa and André Lotterer and had to face Edoardo Mortara of Rokit Venturi Racing in the final. The Italian was half a second faster than Frijns and was allowed to start from pole position.

Tempelhof
The Envision Racing driver lost one place at the start and had to give up a few places when a large number of drivers on the track at the old Tempelhof airport used the attack mode. When Frijns also had more power for eight minutes, he won a place.

While Nyck de Vries slowly increased his lead over the rest of the field and the field behind him was constantly changing, Frijns started an attack on Oliver Rowland. That attack succeeded. Starting from sixth, he tried to push Antonio Félix da Costa from fifth on the last lap. The Portuguese tried to prevent that, but was unable to prevent Robin Frijns from crossing the finish line in fifth.

World Championship standings
The fifth place gives the Maastrichtian ten points for the world championship. He now has 81 points and is fifth in the ranking. Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne leads the standings with 11 points.
