Robert Smith is not a fan of the Royals. He emphasized this several times in the past and in time for the coronation ceremony of Charles III. The Cure head shared a cartoon on Twitter targeting the “exuberance” and “arbitrary privileges” of royalty.
The musician posted a link to a The Guardian cartoon, which is both critical and tongue-in-cheek in preparation for the coronation. For example, one of the speech bubbles created by cartoon artist First Dog on the Moon reads, “Hail to the arbitrary inherited privilege.” And then further: “The enormous cost of this ceremony could have bought every British child a pony. But this distracting profligacy needs to calm the masses lest we unleash the wrath of the poor. Let them eat coronation quiche!”

In 2012, Robert Smith made it clear in an interview with “ZDF” what he thinks of the royals when he explained how he would feel about being knighted: “To be honest, I’d rather chop off my hands […]. I’m way better than her. You’ve never done anything! They are bloody idiots.”
