Robert De Niro isn’t bringing back his Taxi Driver role for commercials

After it was reported a few days ago that Robert De Niro would reprise his role from “Taxi Driver” in a new commercial for Uber, Stan Rosenfield, a member of his PR team, has now refuted these rumors. According to Rosenfield, the commercial “has absolutely nothing to do with his role in Taxi Driver.”

In “Taxi Driver,” the 1976 noir-inspired film by Martin Scorsese, De Niro plays New York taxi driver Travis Bickle, who becomes a criminal out of frustration with society. According to the rumors published in the report, the actor was set to reprise one of his iconic lines in the role of Bickle. In one clip, he is said to be sitting in his car while he imagines himself in a confrontation. “You talking to me? Well, I’m the only one here. Who the f**k do you think you’re talking to?” he repeats several times to his reflection.

Paul Schrader, screenwriter of the classic film, previously responded to the report on Facebook. “Ouch,” he wrote. “Why Bob would do that is beyond me. But I have [den Spot] not seen. If I’m lucky, I’ll never see him.”
