The US trade publication “Hollywood Reporter” is not the only one who is mildly amused and even astonished by the ongoing verbal attacks between Robert De Niro and former President Donald Trump.
The “beef” started in the run-up to the Gotham Awards in New York. As the star of the new Scorsese film “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which was produced by Apple’s streaming service, de Niro delivered a eulogy for the director for the Lifetime “Historical Icon” award on Monday evening (December 4). The Oscar winner also took on another task: awarding the “Creator Tribute Award” sub-category.
When he later watched the recording of the New York ceremony, De Niro noticed that parts of his Scorsese eulogy had been edited out. The 80-year-old mime criticized former US President Donald Trump in his manuscript.
But these passages were not displayed on the teleprompter from which he was reading. After a brief confusion, De Niro then returned to his original manuscript. He also accused the producer Apple of censorship, which in turn caused a storm in the US forest. It has not yet been clarified who exactly removed the posts in question.
Now the Republican presidential candidate is firing back in his own way: “Robert De Niro’s acting talent has diminished significantly and his reputation is now ruined. The man now even has to use a teleprompter for his foul and disgusting expressions. “You are disrespectful to our country,” the 77-year-old said on his own social network “Truth Social.”
And further:
Robert De Niro has become “intolerable”. He “should concentrate on his life, which is already a mess. He has become a total failure, watched by the whole world, who laughs at him,” said Trump on his own platform.
Robert de Niro has not yet responded to the new attack. But the ongoing feud is certainly not over. It is by no means the first time that they have expressed criticism about each other.
