It was announced on Monday (July 3) that Robert De Niro’s grandson, Leandro, has passed away at the age of just 19. The cause of death has not yet been announced. Now the Hollywood actor commented on the death of his “beloved grandchild”.
He told Fox News: “I am deeply saddened by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo. Thank you all for your condolences. We ask that our privacy be respected so that we can grieve the loss of Leo.”
De Niro’s eldest daughter, Drena, shared her grief in a statement to Fox News Digital: “It is with immeasurable dismay and sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved son Leo. We thank you for the love and support and ask that we be given privacy at this time to process this heartbreaking grief.”

On Monday, July 3rd, Drena De Niro announced the news via Instagram. Under the post, numerous followers and fans as well as artists from the film and music industry expressed their sympathy for the unexpected death.
Producer Lee Daniels commented, “Drena, may GOD hold you in his arms,” while Lenny Kravitz wrote, “Dearest Drena, I send my deepest condolences to you and the family. It’s all indescribable at the moment. I love you.”
On Wednesday (July 5), Drena shared another post. This shows two old photos from vacationing with her son Leandro at Playa Jobos in Puerto Rico.
Leandro De Niro was an actor himself and worked on various projects alongside his mother Drena. Among other things, they played together in the film “A Star is Born” with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
The New York Police Department said “The Associated PressOnly that “an 18-year-old man was found unconscious, unresponsive and pronounced dead by local emergency services,” at a Wall Street address where the Cipriani Club Residences is located. According to reports, Leandro had just recently celebrated his 19th birthday. The cause of death is now to be determined by the coroner.
