Two boys (15 and 17) from the municipality of Land van Cuijk who are suspected of a robbery at the De Buurman eatery in Odiliapeel, can await their trial at home if they adhere to a long list of conditions. The suspects are under house arrest and are not allowed to enter Odiliapeel for six months. One of them will also receive an ankle bracelet. The court in Den Bosch announced this.
Both boys are suspected of the robbery that was committed on Saturday evening, November 4. They tried to take the daily proceeds from Henri van Son’s snack bar under threat of a saber. “One had a large saber with him. I thought it was a Halloween act. But they immediately shouted ‘money, money, money’. Then I realized it was not a joke,” the entrepreneur said the day after the robbery. Broadcasting Brabant.
Finally, the snack bar owner flees outside and calls for help. In the meantime, the young robbers try to pull the cash drawer off the counter, but because it is attached to the computer with cables, they cannot get it out.
Outside, Erwin Lips happens to drive by and he sees that something is wrong. When the robbers run outside, he knocks over the perpetrators’ scooter in his car. “In retrospect I was lucky, I saw that one had such a large knife. It could have turned out differently,” Lips told Omroep Brabant. The boys flee on foot, but the police catch them not much later.
Long list of conditions
The boys can now await the trial in freedom, but they must meet a long list of conditions. For example, they are both prohibited from coming to Odiliapeel and contacting the victim for six months. They must also cooperate in any psychological or psychiatric examination.
There are also conditions that differ per suspect. One of the two is under house arrest for six months and is not allowed to go out, only under the supervision of an adult designated for this purpose. The other suspect is allowed to go to school, but only strictly according to the schedule. He is not allowed to skip school and if classes are canceled, he must still stay at school, the court has ruled.
