Robbers jewelry store in Stasegem got stuck after chase

This morning between 9 and 10 a.m. a robbery took place at jewelry store Hoste in Stasegem. A number of masked men ambushed the jeweler. Some witnesses were able to alert the police, who started the chase on the vehicle with a Dutch number plate. According to the public prosecutor, it concerns two young people in their twenties.

The car caused an accident near Sint-Denijs Westrem in which three other cars were involved. A fourth vehicle had to brake very hard, the driver of that vehicle was taken to hospital. The police were able to arrest one person in the car, after a search operation a second was also arrested.

A bag of jewelry was found in the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.

“Everything Happened in Minutes”

The jeweler does not want to respond yet, he is still too impressed. Neighbors heard shouting and glass breaking. “They were wearing a mask. One dropped his bag, picked it up and left. All that in a few minutes,” says cafe owner Martine, who saw the car with the robbers up close.

The two men will be arraigned tomorrow before the investigating judge.
