Rob Stenders wants to deal a sensitive blow to Talpa Radio by bringing in Gerard Ekdom at Radio Veronica. In fact, his attempt has already begun. “We have already called.”
High trees catch a lot of wind and at the moment Radio 10, Talpa’s largest transmitter, seems to be screwed up. After the summer, the station must move to a new FM frequency; the current FM frequency will be owned by competitor DPG Media, which will also broadcast a golden oldies station on it. It could cost Radio 10 a lot of audience.
Gerard snatched?
To make matters worse, another competitor, Radio Veronica of Mediahuis, is now chasing Radio 10’s biggest star: Gerard Ekdom. A salient detail: Radio Veronica was until recently owned by Talpa.
Rob Stenders, Radio Veronica’s boss, wants Gerard. “That is someone I will definitely call for the future. He is now with Radio 10, but I think it fits Radio Veronica, so you understand that I will call it,” he says in an interview with NPO Radio 1.
Or has he secretly already called? “Of course.”
FM frequency
With that call, Rob waited a while until he was sure that Radio Veronica would get an FM frequency again. “If you are not sure whether you have an ether frequency and you would like to have Gerard Ekdom on Radio Veronica, for example… Yes, if you are not sure whether you have an ether frequency, you do not have to call him.”
The week of the FM auction was therefore nerve-racking, says Rob. “You had no idea when it was going to end. That void is really terrible. And on Friday, five minutes before the rest of the world knew it, I received an app saying ‘Different frequencies, but we’re still alive’. What a crazy week that was.”
What did Gerard say?
Anyway, what did Gerard Ekdom say during that call? What did he say again? What was his winged cry again when someone requested a request tag? “I’ll see what I can do for you.” That was it, yes. Hahaha.”
