Rob Goossens has been confronted with questions about his sexual preference since he can remember, but recently the television connoisseur has finally decided: “I’m sure now.”
These days, Rob Goossens no longer cares if angry viewers question his sexual preference. Although he has a girlfriend and even a child, it is still called here and there that he must be gay. “Since my adolescence, people have regularly asked if I am gay,” he confirms in conversation with the Girlfriend.
Robert gay?
Especially as a young lad Rob thought that was bad. “As a teenager that is annoying because you have not yet figured out who or what you are. I’ve never had feelings for men. But the moment number twenty asked if I was attracted to men or women, I started thinking: maybe they see something that I don’t realize yet?
Rob therefore began to doubt whether he might be a little rainbow after all. “Most people don’t have any nasty ulterior motives with that question, they just want to know what’s going on. I’ve never had a problem with that. Except when I thought, should I ask myself? And didn’t have the answer.”
Rob not gay
Now Rob has the answer. “I’ve known for years now that I like women. At a certain point your idea becomes more and more firm about it. But if I suddenly fall madly in love with a man at the age of fifty, people will of course say: ‘Well, I’ve seen it all along, you know. He was just in the closet?’ But that’s not true.”
He concludes: “You know, the question of whether you are gay is of course quite old-fashioned. At the same time, I also like being able to put people in certain boxes. And someone’s orientation is of course an important part of your identity.”
