A man fled from the police in Helvoirt at high speed on Wednesday evening. During his flight, the man performed life-threatening antics, the police reported on Instagram. The man was driving at speeds of more than 200 kilometers per hour. He also drove against traffic. After his arrest, it turned out that three young children under the age of six were in his backseat during his crazy ride.
The police saw the man driving at high speed on the N65 and stopped him. Instead of stopping, the man accelerated. “The driver quickly drove 150 kilometers per hour where 80 is allowed,” the police said.
The pursuit started and the man took the highway towards Den Bosch. The man was now driving more than 200 kilometers per hour.
He overtook several times on the hard shoulder, cut off other road users, ran red lights and drove against traffic on the highway.
“The fact that no accidents have happened is a miracle. Very dangerous!”, the police wrote. When the man could finally be stopped, the man ran away. With the deployment of a police helicopter, the police were able to see where he had ultimately hidden. That’s when police discovered the three small children in the backseat of the car.
“The driver was probably under the influence of drugs, we are still waiting for the results. Furthermore, the driver can count on a heavy fine.”
Inquiries with the police reveal that a report was also made to Veilig Thuis, which is the reporting center for domestic violence and child abuse. Ultimately, a judge will decide what punishment the man will receive.
