The road along the fishing pond in Drouwenermond will be reopened to motorized traffic. This has been decided by the Municipal Executive of Borger-Odoorn.
The council is doing this after the judge ordered the municipality to reconsider an objection from Stichting Platform Keelbos 2.0, an interest organization for gay meeting places.
It has been prohibited since June to drive motor vehicles on the dead end road along the fishing pond. That’s right along the section used as a gay hangout. Earlier, a barrier was placed over the road, but it was soon sawn in half. An iron barrier then followed, which managed to keep it up for a year. Finally, it was banned, but that too is now off the table.
The foundation challenged the road closure and went to court in September. So successfully. The prohibition sign will be removed soon.
