Road construction sites are apparently particularly dangerous in Berlin

Unfortunately, we have to report about this far too often: Lately, drivers have ended up in the track bed of the tram with an alarming number of times. A comment by BZ editor Andreas Vollbrechtshausen.

Berlin’s most neuralgic point: the Berliner Allee in Weißensee, at a construction site that has existed since April, was supposed to disappear in July and is still there.

If the work had been completed within the planned time frame, three drivers would have been spared having to be rescued from the track bed by the fire brigade on Sunday evening.

But that construction work will actually be completed within the planned time is a pious wish. The provisional traffic routing due to construction is far too often irritating, especially for those unfamiliar with the area.

Not to mention traffic lights that no longer give priority to trams, causing traffic jams and delays.

So be careful! If you drive behind a tram, you should always expect it to change from the road to your own track bed – and then just don’t follow it.
