RKI registers 235,626 new corona infections – incidence at 1385.1

BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – The nationwide seven-day incidence has fallen again. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants per week on Thursday morning as 1385.1. For comparison: the day before the value was 1401.0. A week ago, the nationwide incidence was 1465.4 (previous month: 528.2). The health authorities in Germany reported 235,626 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. This is evident from numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 5 a.m. A week ago there were 247,862 infections.

However, the numbers are only of limited significance at the moment. Experts assume a high number of cases that are not recorded in the RKI data. Test capacities and health authorities are therefore at the limit in many places, contacts are only traced to a limited extent. In addition, the number of people who no longer have their infection confirmed by a PCR test is likely to increase – the infection is therefore not included in the official statistics.

According to the new information, 261 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 238 deaths. The RKI has counted 13,035,941 infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections go undetected.

The number of corona-infected patients who came to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was 6.04 according to the RKI on Wednesday (Tuesday: 5.9). These include people with a positive corona test who have another main disease.

The RKI gave the number of recovered people on Thursday as 9,320,700. The number of people who died from or involved a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 120,728./rgr/DP/zb
