RKC Waalwijk loses for the third time in a row

After three rounds in the Eredivisie, RKC Waalwijk still hasn’t scored a single point. In Nijmegen, the away game against NEC was also lost on Saturday evening: it became 3-0. Keeper Etienne Vaessen has already had to fish nine times in three matches.

Henk Fraser had of course wished himself – and his club – a better start as the new trainer of RKC. Also in the duel with NEC, which, just like RKC, had started the competition with two losses, his team was unable to break any pots. Michiel Kramer was the closest to a goal in the first half, but his effort went miraculously and a stretched leg from Nijmegen keeper Jasper Cillessen went wide.

Afterwards, RKC’s captain did not give the impression that panic had broken out due to the very disappointing start. “Certainly on the ball we played a reasonable to good game, but we need to be more decisive,” he told ESPN.

Fraser will not be near despair either, that is not in the nature of the successor to Joseph Oosting, who has left for FC Twente. Still, it must have become clear to him where his team’s vulnerabilities are. However, the five switches he applied in the Goffert were of no avail.

NEC owed the win mainly to Magnus Mattsson, who scored twice. The Dane broke the spell in the 23rd minute and doubled their lead in the final minute of regular time. Five minutes into extra time, Spanish mercenary Rober González made the final score 3-0.
