RKC is facing a big defeat against Ajax

RKC Waalwijk did not manage to pull off a stunt against Ajax on Sunday. The team from Amsterdam were not in the best shape, but easily won the match: 4-1. Due to the defeat, RKC remains in 16th place. The RKC fans may be concerned, because the lead on the two direct relegation spots has shrunk to just two points.

Ajax striker Brian Brobbey opened the scoring for the home team in the ninth minute, after a good cross from Steven Berghuis. The Waalwijkers scored the equalizer in the fifteenth minute through Michiel Kramer. It was the striker’s seventh goal against Ajax after a defensive blunder by the Amsterdam team. He has not succeeded in that against any other club in the Eredivisie.

Ajax regained the initiative and quickly found the lead again: ten minutes before half-time, Brobbey, after a nice body movement, shot the ball hard against the ropes again. The team from Amsterdam did not play big in the remainder of the match, but saw Kristian Hlynsson score the third goal with a placed shot in the second half.

After a handball by RKC player Dario van den Buijs, Ajax was allowed to take a penalty in the seventieth minute. Ajax captain Steven Bergwijn awarded Brobbey his third goal, but his effort was stopped by RKC goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen. Berghuis scored the fourth goal in the final phase and ended the game definitively.

The RKC players had to do it without their loyal fans on Sunday afternoon. They announced last week that they would not travel to the away match against Ajax after ‘unpleasant experiences in previous seasons’.
