RKC is almost safe in special shirts: ‘Our dream also came true’

There was a lot of joy in Waalwijk after the 3-1 victory over FC Groningen. It must go crazy if RKC does not play football in the Eredivisie again next season. Still, the protagonists still had a hard time on Sunday evening.

“We are not there yet”, said coach Joseph Oosting after the won match. Etienne Vaessen and Finn Stokkers also used the same words. But of course they were all very happy with the three points.

“Our dream also came true”, Stokkers referred to the charity for which RKC took part in this match. The club played in special shirts for Villa Pardoes. “We had opted for a different tactic and it worked out very well. We wanted to put very high pressure and that surprised Groningen”, the striker continued his story.

“We take the points at the right times”

Vaessen also enjoyed his team. “The first half was fantastic. I’ve enjoyed it. It’s amazing that the tactic is working out like that.”

With the win, RKC opens a gap of five points to the bottom three teams. The club from Waalwijk is not allowed to give this away in the last three games. Something Oosting didn’t expect either.

“Last week I got questions about whether the stress was increasing. But we have been consistent all season. I don’t mean that arrogantly, but when you see us all season you know that we take the points at the right times.”

“The club really deserves the compliments”

And that is of course great from RKC, which still has the smallest budget in the Eredivisie. Vaessen is therefore full of praise for what the club manages to achieve every year. “Frank van Mosselveld and Mo Allach are doing really well. See what kind of team is there. It’s great that a Jens Odgaard comes here to play football. The club really deserves the compliments. We can be proud.”

The away game against SC Cambuur awaits on Friday. If it is up to Stokkers and Vaessen, RKC will really play it safe. “We’re going to finish it on Friday. Then you can really say you’re there.”

The suggestion to play in the special uniforms again sounds like music to the ears during rush hour. “I’ll introduce it. It’s a fantastic promotion, hopefully a lot of money will be given for the shirts. I think that will be fine after tonight’s result.”

The competition shirts will be auctioned for charity. All proceeds go to Villa Pardoes. You can bid on the shirts via this one link
