RKAV Volendam and DEM through in KNVB cup after penalties, AFC does not survive series

OFC, RKAV Volendam, DEM and ADO’20 are in the first round of the KNVB Cup. Volendam and DEM continued after a series of penalties, while second divisionist AFC did not survive the penalties. The draw will be made next Friday evening.

OFC hardly plays a significant role in the second division, but the Oostzaners took from UDI’19: 6-2. That’s great, because it was Niels Butter who scored twice after trailing 2-0. With that, extra time was forced and the second divisionist ran out to a big win.

ADO’20 had already survived the first preliminary round by beating VVOG 4-3. It went a lot easier for the Heemskerkers against VVSB. Goals from Milan Zonneveld, Jan-Willem Tesselaar and Danny Lute made it 3-0. JOS/Watergraafsmeer from the third division had already been eliminated in the first preliminary round.

Penalty Series

With a 2-2 score after extra time, RKAV Volendam had to take penalties against HSC’21. It went 5-4 in the series and the big man was Dominique Witte. The just 18-year-old keeper became the hero by turning a penalty. At DEM from Beverwijk, Sven Verswijveren was decisive. All his teammates had scored against Unitas in the penalty shootout, after which he stopped the last one: 5-4.

AFC has left a sour aftertaste to their penalty shootout series. After an insane 4-4 (!) final score after extra time against Staphorst, defender Dalian Maatsen missed the decisive knock.

Other clubs

In addition to FC Volendam and Telstar (Ajax and AZ are missing due to European obligations), Royal HFC is also in the pipeline on Friday. HFC became period champion in the second division last season and thus qualified for the first round. The draw will be made on ESPN starting at 11 p.m.
