RIVM analyzed the period between August 2, 2021 and August 30, 2022. The admission of people over 60 was mainly averted, but it was also quite a bit among younger groups.
The National Intensive Care Evaluation (NICE) registered almost 45,000 admissions of people with Covid-19 in the same time. “The number of hospital admissions that has been prevented is therefore twice as large as the actual number of hospital admissions,” according to the RIVM.
conservative estimate
RIVM emphasizes that this is a conservative estimate. It even expects that vaccination probably prevented even more hospital admissions: “In this analysis, for example, RIVM has not included the indirect effects of vaccination. Vaccinated people are less likely to infect others. As a result, fewer people have become ill who might otherwise have ended up in hospital.”
