River Terminal Roeselare along the canal ready by this summer
With the River Terminal Roeselare, a project with a cost of 6.6 million euros, the POM West Flanders and De Vlaamse Waterweg want to convince more companies to switch to inland shipping for the transport of goods and raw materials.
More than four million tons of goods are transported annually via the Roeselare-Leie canal. The River Terminal is intended to provide a way out for companies that do not have direct access to the canal.
Interested in companies
At the start of the entire project, the companies were asked about their interest. “At the moment there are already about fifteen companies who have shown interest and concrete potential for using the terminal. The companies are active in various sectors, from building materials to recycling flows,” says provincial councilor Kurt Himpe (N-VA).
“With a 230-metre long quay wall and 18,000 square meters of storage space, this transshipment center will become an important link in the upgrading of the entire canal zone.”
