Artificial intelligence and journalism: a great challenge

The journalist in her acceptance speech underlined that «Artificial Intelligence must be governed, but it must go hand in hand with human intelligence». Then she recounted an experiment done before the event: «When I found out about the award ceremony I thought I’d have ChatGPT write my thanks. The experiment, however, was disappointing. From the text emerged a politically correct speech, but full of banalities”, added the director.

No veto, but regulation

The award ceremony for people and companies who have distinguished themselves in the field of digital culture took place at the headquarters of the Italian Federation of Newspaper Publishers in Rome. Among the protagonists also Alberto Barachini, undersecretary with responsibility for Information and Publishing and Forza Italia senator Maurizio Gasparri.

And the latter highlighted how “the network is a great opportunity, but also an area which, to date, does not pay taxes”. And therefore, “without blocking artificial intelligence, the biggest concern is the impotence of regulation», he concluded.
